Both the infant and the young child are subject to a considerable number of minor and even serious skin diseases.
Besides such conditions as napkin rashes, there is one skin disease on which children seem to have a monopoly. This is ringworm of the scalp. Antibiotics effective against the fungus are available. Most of the cases occur by human infection, but it is also acquired from cats, dogs, and horses that harbour a form of ringworm that can affect the human scalp.
Petechial rash
There is one type of rash that is an indication of a potentially dangerous disease. It is called a petechial rash and is caused by bleeding under the skin. If your child has a rash, you can determine whether it is of this type by pressing one or more of the spots between your thumbs. If the colour still remains, call a doctor immediately.
